Description
Philipponnat’s 2007 Clos des Goisses, disgorged in October 2023 with 4.5g/L dosage, is a beautifully expressive rendition of this fabled single-vineyard Champagne. A blend of 52% Pinot Noir and 48% Chardonnay, it opens with honeysuckle, golden apple, pastry and warm spice, layered with a touch of eucalyptus and exotic fruit from the botrytis-tinged season. The palate is full-bodied yet incisive, its generous core of fruit driven by bracing acidity and culminating in a long, citrus-laced finish. As Kristaps Karklins observed in The Wine Advocate, it captures both the generosity of 2007 and the precision for which Goisses is renowned. In magnum, this release promises added depth and slow evolution, drinking elegantly now and rewarding cellaring through 2038–2040.
