Super Tuscan Treasure Trove

So far, we’ve travelled through Spain, Burgundy, and California - but this week, we’re heading to one of the most beloved wine regions on the planet: Tuscany.

But first a brief history lesson:

What we now call "Super Tuscans" got off to a slow start. Newly back from a visit to Bordeaux in the 1940s, Mario Incisa planted Bordeaux varieties on the Tenuta San Guido estate with the aim of making a "Grand Vin" to rival the first-growths. His early efforts were savaged by Italian wine critics, however, and the wine that we now know as Sassicaia was consumed exclusively by family and friends until the 1968 vintage, when its tendency towards a long life in the cellar had begun to change the minds of the pundits of the day.
