Happy Sunday Wine Fun Day, y'all!
The Stag's Leap offer sold out in record time and for those of you who have asked, I'm trying to get more and will reach out if any of my sources come through. If you were interested but haven't gotten in touch, ping me a note since a bit of volume could help get a deal over the line.
Considering the steal that a few of you got last time, the SLV is a tough act to follow. But, this is exactly the type of challenge I love and why I'm building Avint-Garde.
So where do we look for value? A narrow ribbon of vineyards between Lyon and Dijon known for turning out some of the world's most sought-after wines.
"You can't be serious, Nick", I hear you thinking.

I am. And I hope you'll be as excited about this one as I am.

For serious winos, Sylvain Cathiard needs little introduction. Based in Vosne-Romanée, the domaine has long been one of the most sought-after names in the Côte de Nuits.
With coveted holdings in Romanée-Saint-Vivant and a roster of top Vosne premiers crus including Malconsorts, Cathiard sits firmly among the benchmark names of the village. The result is a range that has become increasingly difficult to access, with even the Bourgogne-level wines now attracting serious attention from collectors and being offered on an allocation-only basis by the market.

The Hautes-Côtes has been one of Burgundy’s most exciting areas in recent years, and it is easy to see why a domaine like Cathiard would be drawn to it. Cooler, higher-elevation sites bring freshness and tension, while warmer growing seasons have made ripeness more reliable. In less exacting hands, the appellation can still produce simple regional wine, but Cathiard’s meticulous farming, restrained cellar work and instinct for purity bring a level of precision and care rarely found at this price point. The result is not just good-value Burgundy, but a wine that carries the quiet detail, balance and polish of one of Vosne-Romanée’s great domaines.
After acquiring 5.3 hectares in the Hautes-Côtes, the domaine first released two red cuvées from the 2019 vintage. The following year brought something especially interesting: Cathiard’s maiden Hautes-Côtes de Nuits Blanc.
At £270 per six in bond, or £45 per bottle, this is rare access to the first vintage of a new wine from one of Vosne’s great names through a fresh, chalky and beautifully poised white Burgundy. For collectors and drinkers alike, it is exactly the kind of smart, off-the-beaten-track Burgundy that has become harder to find.
