A Masterclass in Reserve Wines - Roederer Collection

Howdy Wine Friends!

I had something else in mind for this week's offer, but I thought with days getting warmer and longer, the arrival of Spring, and Easter festivities, only Champagne would do. And I know what you're thinking - "another Champagne offer, which of the tired Champagne quotes will Nick use here?" As tempting as Sir Winston, Coco Chanel, and Napoleon are, I'll spare you.

Bubblehead subscribers will likely know Tom Hewson, who joined Decanter as their Champagne correspondent a couple years ago. And if you want to get really into the weeds (geeky), his Substack, Six Atmospheres is essential reading on all things Champagne and traditional method sparkling wine. He recently wrote a great piece on the use of perpetual reserves where he recommends Roederer Collection, and since I've got a selection of cases across recent releases, so thought I'd share them with you.

I strongly recommend checking out the post (and subscribing if you're so inclined), but in case a summary is helpful, here you go:
  • Champagne’s reserve wine system is what underpins non-/multi-vintage quality - blending past vintages to deliver consistency regardless of the growing season
  • There are two layers: regulated reserves (a safety net for poor harvests) and producer-controlled reserves that shape house style
  • The best houses (Pierre Péters, Phillipponnat, Bruno Paillard, Roederer) use “perpetual reserves” - continuously refreshed blends that build complexity, texture, and depth over time
  • The result isn’t overtly “aged” character, but something more valuable: balance, nuance, and reliability year after year
  • Roederer singled out as a recommendation - its Collection wines lean heavily on a sophisticated reserve system to deliver precision and depth well beyond typical non-vintage Champagne
In short, these are outstanding, complex wines suitable for any celebration or occasion that don't break the bank. All at available at best-in-UK prices.

White-Glove Concierge Delivery and Free In-Bond Transfers

Happy Easter in advance to those who celebrate. The AGFW concierge (yours truly) is away this week, so M-25 deliveries will resume the week commencing 6 April. Orders will still be processed as usual, so if you'd like to pick up one of these Champagnes (or anything else for that matter), select nationwide delivery at check-out. Otherwise I'll be in touch to arrange delivery once I'm back.

For anything you want to lay down safely in bond, our usual UK warehouse transfer service is available at no cost and there are a few cases piling up for the major warehouses, so they should be in your account without much wait.
