Description
Domaine Dujardin’s Monthélie Premier Cru Les Vignes Rondes 2019 captures a pivotal moment for this under-the-radar Côte de Beaune estate. Founded by Ulrich Dujardin, who moved from Lille after years harvesting with the Bouzerand family, 2019 marks the first vintage led by his children, Paul and Margaux. Their approach signals a clear stylistic shift – away from the more robust, long-aging reds of the past toward greater suppleness and aromatic lift.
From a site with thin soils that ripen early, the 2019 was made with 50% whole bunches and a short 8-10 day cuvaison. Jasper Morris notes a “livelier bouquet with some sweet crushed strawberry,” followed by spice and, crucially, “persistence which keeps on going.” That length defines the wine: poised, fragrant, and quietly complex. Drink now with a decant or cellar through the next decade.
