Description
Geyserville is one of California’s benchmark old-vine field blends, made from a historic Alexander Valley site first bottled by Ridge in 1966. The 2016 is 73% Zinfandel, 17% Carignane, 7% Petite Sirah and 3% Alicante Bouschet, from organically grown fruit, aged 12 months in American oak. Ridge describes plum, black cherry, mint, gravelly earth and ripe bramble fruit, with balanced acidity and elegant tannins. William Kelley at The Wine Advocate describes an “exuberant bouquet of sweet cherries, blackberries and plums, with subtle hints of the licorice and spice to come with age, and a subtle framing of sweet new oak.” and that Geyserville stood out as a particular higlight.
